Hiking Trail Proposed Through Stanford Golf Course

For those who revere the Stanford Golf Course, the idea sounds blasphemous: Tear up and reconfigure 11 holes to accommodate a hiking trail.
Some insist Stanford University would never -- at least certainly not for the sake of a trail -- sacrifice the turf where Tiger Woods and Tom Watson teed off. But to satisfy an expansion agreement with Santa Clara County, the university has offered two possible routes for a western trail. One of those proposals takes out tees and slices through fairways and greens.
