Bicyclists will be banned from the Cactus Forest Trail in the east unit of Saguaro National Park after an environmental group showed park officials that bikes should not have been allowed in the first place.
Hikers and horse riders may continue to use the trail, but beginning Monday bicycles will be restricted to roads in the park.
The 2.5-mile trail was opened to bicycles more than a decade ago, said acting Superintendent Jim Bellamy.
"In reviewing the actions leading to the opening of this trail to mountain bike use over a decade ago, the park discovered that a regulation was overlooked, and the park did not have the proper authorizations to allow such use on the trail," Bellamy said
Bicyclists aren't happy.
