Response to NPS Report on Emmons Rescue
ASHFORD, Wash. _ A chartered helicopter that crashed on Mount Rainier during a June rescue operation has apparently slid into a crevasse and cannot be
recovered, officials say.
The Bell Jet Ranger owned by Aero Copters Inc. of Seattle was last seen in early July, shortly after a recovery attempt was postponed at the last moment.
Since then, pilots and climbers who have been near the site say the wreckage appears to have slid down the Carbon Glacier into a crevasse.
"The machine's not there," company president Leo Mitchell said. "I don't think it will be recovered."
