Starting next summer, officials will enforce a new leash law for dogs in the eastern portion of the Three Sisters Wilderness that includes an area accessed by the following trailheads: Devil's Lake, Todd Lake, Broken Top, Soda Creek and Green Lake.

The mandate will affect the entire area and will not be limited to trails, campgrounds and trailheads.

Dog owners will need to keep their canine companions on a leash, and the Forest Service will even have restraints available at trailheads if an owner forgets to bring their own.

The point is to stop dogs from fighting with each other, picking on horses or pack animals and bothering people, said Marv Lang, recreation specialist for the Deschutes National Forest.
