Ironic naming of Everest

Response to Mt. Everest is an appropriate name

Ironically, the surveyor who Everest was named after did not want the mountain named for him, and was in favor of using names given by regional peoples whenever possible. The mountain was named for him posthumously, I believe, which would have him rolling in his grave.
