...I don't think Patrick's point was that this poor fellow that was tragically shot in his own home was not excercising appropriate caution. I think all of us would agree about that.
Perhaps his message should have been in reply to a different subject.
I think the point of that message was that if you are going hiking during this season, it is worth your time to wear something bright enough to clue in hunters that you're not a target! I don't like hunting and never will (my own personal preference, not a condemnation of hunting in general), and I'm not defending them. However, I think it's good advice, especially in hunting-crazy states, to exercise caution. Like Patrick implied, there are some total idiots out there with lethal weapons.
Just another reminder of possible backcountry dangers.
