Response to February Accidents/Rescues

Valerie Mackenzie Hartley, 58, of Pulham Market, near Harleston, who is believed to have been a member of the Norwich Climbing and Caving Club, died on Sunday afternoon, despite a dramatic rescue effort.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said Ms Hartley was in a party of seven climbing the popular 3309ft peak Ben Eighe in the Torridon mountain range, near Kinlochewe, in Ross and Cromarty.

The group was on a serrated ridge known as the Black Carls when she slipped 700ft on steep snow and scree.
