Response to March Accidents/Rescues

Rachel Crowley and George Metcalfe didn't tell anyone where they were going on their trip in southern Utah. It was a tragic mistake.

On Monday, Metcalfe, 26, was rescued by Kane County ranchers, who found him staggering down a dirt road east of Kodachrome Basin State Park. Exhausted, dehydrated and suffering effects of hypothermia, he told them he had left Crowley a day earlier to try to find help.
Crowley, 27, was found dead the same day, lying under a tree in a remote area of Garfield County. She most likely died from exposure.

The couple had been stuck in the area beyond the state park for three days before deciding to try to walk out. Their Jeep had bogged down in a snowstorm.
