Helicopter With Heat Seeking Equipment Finds Lost Mission Peak, California, Hiker

Apr. 14 (AP) — A 31-year-old Fremont man is safe this morning after spending the chilly night lost in Mission Peak Regional Preserve.

A helicopter equipped with heat-seeking search equipment located Chen Ji shortly after it took off at first light.

Officials say Ji and a friend were hiking there last night when they became separated. Ji used his cell phone to tell his friend he had fallen and was lost. Then the connection went dead.

Officials hunted all night on foot, using dogs and a helicopter equipped with a powerful searchlight.
