country’s second highest mountain, following reports that a curse put on President Arroyo by Ibaloi and Kalanguya tribesmen remains.
Miguel Arroyo, the President’s husband, said they would not go if they were not welcome in Mt. Pulag, according to Pura Molintas, head of the DOT Cordillera office and Dave Leprozo Jr., president of the Cordillera Tourism Press Club.
Mt. Pulag, at 2,922 meters [9,586 feet] above sea level, is considered a sacred mountain by the two tribes. Trekkers are strictly advised not to create disruptions that might disturb their gods.
The curse on the President was reportedly made after elders here, learned that the First Family would use a helicopter to land near the summit last year.
Only a few dignitaries have reached the summit of Mt. Pulag. Among them were United States Ambassador Francis Ricciardone, and Energy Secretary Vince Perez, who climbed the mountain on Maundy Thursday.
