Response to April 2003 Accidents/Rescues

Four days after a 59-year-old San Jose postman vanished among cactuses and towering boulders while day-hiking in the desert, rescuers found him injured but alive Friday and airlifted him to safety.A search team picked up the trail of Marvin Matsumoto's size-8 1/2 sneakers and found him about 2:40 p.m., stuck 15 feet down a crevasse in a high boulder formation about a mile north of where he was last seen near Barker Dam in the rugged northwestern corner of the park.Matsumoto's wife of 21 years, Mitsuru Matsumoto, who had kept vigil near the 1.1 mile loop trail where her husband disappeared, told reporters that the past few days have been ``torture.'' x`
