Response to Fire Temporarily Closes I-40 at Flagstaff as Arizona Burns Again

Fire officials are going on the offensive today, with backburn fires being lit this afternoon to protect homes in Ventana Canyon.

"We're going to be going in there full bore 24 hours a day," said Aspen fire incident commander Dan Oltrogge.

Beginning about 4 p.m., firefighters will begin lighting back-burn fires from 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile north of homes in Ventana Canyon. The fires will burn upward, robbing any flames heading down of fuel.
