Response to July 2003 Accident/Rescue Reports

A 23-year-old Calgary man climbing in Kananaskis Country was found dead at the base of a slope yesterday.

Police were called when the man, who was solo climbing on Mount Lorette Tuesday, failed to return home.

A search was mounted early yesterday afternoon by Kananaskis RCMP, Canmore and Kananaskis conservation officers, Alpine Helicopters and supported by Kananaskis Emergency Medical Services.

The unidentified climber was found at Mount Lorette -- located on the west side of Hwy. 40 and five km north of Kananaskis Village -- at the foot of a scree slope, said Kananaskis RCMP Cst. A.J. Mand.
