Climbing Wall Death Prompts Safety Bulletin
Undated, 9/29/2003
A July climbing wall death in Columbia has prompted the consumer product safety commission to issue a safety bulletin to all climbing wall operators. The CPSC is asking wall owners and operators to closely inspect all equipment in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
The government issued the request shortly after the accident in Columbia that claimed the life of 22-year-old Christina Ewing. She fell off a mobile rock wall at a Mid-Missouri Mavericks game in July when a frayed cable snapped. The owner of that wall is now facing an involuntary manslaughter charge.
