Response to December 2003 Accidents/Rescues

A 14-year-old ROTC student from Fort Benning who got lost Saturday afternoon while orienteering in the 10,000-acre Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain, was found safe but cold and hungry about 9:15 p.m. Saturday.
The teenage boy, whose identity was not released by the Harris County Emergency Medical Service, was part of a group camping at the park and working on land navigation skills using compass and map, said Park Manager Ronnie Eakins on Monday. He had been last reported seen at 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ga. 190 and the Fox Den Cove trail.
He was in a group of four youths who were practicing orienteering skills together when he became separated, Eakins said.
