Response to Record 18 Inch Carolina Snow

In what has been described as the best weather in the history of the event, over a hundred and fifty runners stormed up from Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain, along mountain trails, to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the snow covered peak of Mount Mitchell, the highest mountain on the East Coast.
Matt Starek finished the 26 mile marathon in a time of 3:24:33. Will Harlan completed the 40 mile Mount Mitchell Challenge with an unofficial time of 5:04:53. Harlen was also the winner of the Valentines Day Race in Black Mountain, and has won the Mount Mitchell Challenge twice before.
"This mountain brings out the best in the runners," said Harlan, afterwards. "I feel it is a symbol for this area."
