Response to Colorado wildfire in Larimer County forces residents to evacuate

LAPORTE, CO - A stubborn, voracious wildfire claimed a home and garage in the Bonner Peak Ranch subdivision Thursday as it grew to 3,500 acres.

"We expect the fire to continue to grow," said Steven Hall, a spokesman for Rocky Mountain Area Team Bravo, which Thursday morning took responsibility for managing the Picnic Rock Fire.

The address of the home on Obenchain Road, where there are eight houses, was not released because fire officials wanted to notify the owner first.

Firefighters, thwarted for days by warm temperatures and low humidity, are counting on a predicted spring storm to help them get a handle on the wildly erratic inferno.
