Body of Pilot Recovered from Mount Borah

By Brad Hudson

Custer County -
A rescue crew in Custer County on Wednesday recovered the pilot from a plane crash on Mount Borah. The plane disappeared May 22nd. 39 year old John Paul Brandner was flying from Dillon, Montana to Boise. The wreckage was discovered Sunday on the eastern slope of Borah Peak, at about the 10,000 foot level.

Custer County contracted with a helicopter company out of Twin Falls to reach a landing area near the crash site. Rescue teams had to hike about 400 yards up the steep mountainside to get to the wreckage.

The recovery operation was complete early in the afternoon. The victim was positively identified and his relatives were notified.

The insurance company is finding a contractor to retrieve the plane.

Brandner's plane was set up for aerial fire fighting. He was reportedly headed to New Mexico to help fight wildfires.
