One of the Five Towers of Cortina, a dramatic rock formation in the Dolomites of northern Italy , has collapsed from erosion. ."It's lucky it happened at this time of year when there's still snow," said a spokesman for the Cortina tourist office. "If it had happened in August it could have been a tragedy because a lot of people go there." The Five Towers - so-called because five are visible from the town, although there actually are about a dozen towers - are one of the most popular climbing areas in the Italian Alps, attracting thousands of climbers every year.
