MORNING IN MAINE
U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio got one of the best results of the presidential primary season in Maine, but he still needed a geography lesson Thursday.
Kucinich wanted to compare Maine's progressive reputation to a dawn against the darkness of the Bush administration. He chose the image because the sun rises first on Maine each morning.
But Kucinich struggled with where the sun's light actually reaches the state first. He paused during his speech. Is it Katahdin in Baxter State Park or Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park? he asked the delegation.
No, it's Washington County, offered Gov. John Baldacci.
"It's Lubec," shouted Leslie Harlow of Sullivan, a delegate from Down East.
