Response to More Than 3,000 Climb Greylock in 38th Annual Ramble

Hikers young and old will once again ascend Mt. Greylock as the Adams Mt. Greylock Ramble will take place on Monday, October 11th. This year is the 39th year of the Traditional Columbus Day event now sponsored by the Our Town of Adams - Events Planning Committee.

A FREE shuttle bus will provided round trip transport for hikers to the Cheshire Harbor Trail at the base of Mt. Greylock on West Mountain Road in Adams from 8 AM to 4 PM. The bus will leave from in front of the Adams Free Library at McKinley Square in Adams. The last bus for hikers departing to the Cheshire Harbor Trail to begin their hike will be at 1 PM.

The last bus for hikers returning to the downtown at the conclusion of their hike will be at 4 P.M. Parking at the base of the trail is extremely limited so hikers are urged to park in the Depot Street parking lot in Adams, adjacent to the new Discover the Berkshires Adams Visitors Center, and use the shuttle. NO PARKING will be allowed on West Mountain Road or Gould Road.

The first 2000 hikers will receive certificates of accomplishment upon reaching the summit and registering at Bascom Lodge. Special recognition is given to the first hiker, the youngest hiker (walks on their own), and the oldest hiker to reach the summit, as well as to the hiker who has traveled the greatest distance to participate. Refreshments, souvenirs, sweatshirts, T-shirts and tickets for a 50/50 raffle will be available for purchase.

The public is encouraged to hike the Cheshire Harbor Trail ONLY for safeties sake; both the Thunderbolt Ski Trail and the “Landslide” should be avoided. Access through the Greylock Glen property is also not permitted. No horses or recreational vehicles are allowed and pets must be on a leash at all times. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
