Response to Criteria for Attainment of a Highpoint

The Annual Directory comes with the 2nd quarter magazine. Basically it's a membership roster, but we've also crammed it with lots of general data about the Club - - sort of like a virtual web site which you can take along in your car.

Jack Longacre was asked many times what proof was required by the Club for recognition. Jack typed up an answer and it can be found in the Directory. Basically we operate on the honor system. Photos are good proof. Those claiming completion should send us their first/last date & state.

The vague nature of the Bylaws stems from the words "actual highpoint." In the Directory, we list the state highpoints (as provided by the USGS). For Arkansas we list Magazine Mountain. So is it good enough to visit the broad summit of Magazine or must a person go to Signal Hill? On Wheeler Peak, must a person touch (or stand or lean or rub forehead) on the very highest rock outcrop or does simply standing around the register count?

Someone may wish to distill this discussion into an article for the HP Club magazine. Perhaps some clarification will result.
