I was out there 2 years ago and scoped out the road with the 4WD SUV I had rented. As I recall, I had to drive really slowly and still had some suspension-bottoming experiences. Then there was the stream crossing. I didn't think I could make it, but did with some encouragement from my climbing partner who got out and guided the way. It's not that lengthy of a crossing, but you're on an incline perpendicular to your line of travel. It was flowing pretty well in early June of '03. Don't know what the snowpack / meltwater situation is out there now. Basically I was happy to have a high clearance vehicle, but I'm not a particularly experienced off-roader.
