Arizona Central reports Shelley Windsor, 31, of Mesa died last Saturday after falling more than 90 feet from a canyon wall at Paradise Forks, a popular climbing area 30 miles west of Flagstaff.
She and a friend had rappelled down the canyon wall and climbed back up twice earlier in the day. But as she took her first steps down on the third rappel, the rope she had tied to a tree unraveled, her father, Bill, said.
This was the second death at Paradise Forks since 2003. On May 26 of that year, Ming Shih, 29, of Chandler died while rappelling into the canyon. Windsors parents said Shelley and Shih were friends and often climbed together. When she learned of his death, she did not tell them, fearful of concerning them about her safety.
