Response to November Accidents

The Mail Tribune reports authorities are debating whether to fine Brian Lester Thibeault, 19, of Medford $150 for not filling out the Mount Hood permit and then having to be rescued.

Thibeault was advised by snowboarders at 11:30 p.m. not to climb alone. When his car was still in the parking lot at 4 p.m., the snowboarders reported him to authorities at Timberline.

Around 11 volunteers combed the mountain in search of Thibeault. They found him Wednesday morning in good condition near the summit. Babst believes that Thibeault did not believe himself to be in need of rescue.
