Magnitude 5.2 Earthquake in Southern Illinois

The Midwest was given a rude awakening about 4:37 this morning as a magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit near Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

In St. Louis, 125 miles west, we were awakened by the shaking. No damage to our house but there were scattered reports of slight damage around the area.

It was an interesting 'quake. High-frequency quivering (6-10 Hz) rather than gross shaking. Typical low-audible rumbling (like thunder at a distance) as well.
