Response to Second Quarter 2010 Backcountry Rescues/Accidents

Two climbers in their 20s from Quebec were rescued earlier this week after falling over a cornice below Camp Muir:

"Rangers rescued two Mount Rainier climbers who fell over a cornice Monday night.

Mount Rainier National Park spokeswoman Patti Wold said both climbers were escorted to Camp Muir.

Three rangers found the couple between Anvil Rock and Muir Rock below Camp Muir Tuesday morning. Both climbers were able to hike up to the camp where a chopper then airlifted them to a landing zone at Kautz Creek. They were then transported to a hospital Tuesday afternoon."
