Illegal Boundary Peak Access Road?

I am finally getting serious about my AZ-NV-CA September expedition.

After reading all the trip reports, I am beginning to wonder if anybody has had an uneventful climb of Boundary.

The Hiking Las Vegas site notes that there route to the access route listed in most guidebooks is illegal. For $3 they will tell me the right way. I of course am buying it. Does anybody have any insight?

Even the frequent Forum posters Charlie and Diane Wingers in their new book "Highpoint Adventures" report that Diane got lost and wound up spending the night on the mountain even as rescuers were called in to hunt for her.

Everybody reports getting off on the wrong trails and being terrified of the scree/boulders.

I had hoped to take along my pet golden retriever but the sage brush doesn't sound like it would be too good.

It would seem that Boundary has the worst rep of all non-technical hike ups.

Has anybody had a good experience on Boundary? Would my time be better spent at the Bellagio?
