Expedition News, April 2008 v 15 n 4 - Jack's Ashes
April 3 2008, 10:52 AM
On page 3 of the 11 page April issue, there's a nice aticle about the effort to place Jack's ashes on major peaks of the world. "Escort Jack to Everest" is the title of this article which provides a lot of history about Jack and the Club.
Jean Trousdale told me yesterday that Jack's ashes have finally made it to the top of Mount Everest! He has therefore done the Grand Slam: the highest peak on each of the seven continents, plus the North Pole and South Pole. Unfortunately, summit conditions apparently did not allow for pictures, but Jack is now there, as well on the neighboring peak, Lhotse.
I suggested to Jean that she publish a list of all the places where jack has been, so that travelers to other parts of the world can take Jack to where he hasn't been (yet). Maybe a list on the Highpointers Club website or the newsletter? Way to go Jack; I bet you never expected to be such a world traveler! Has Jack gone into space yet??? Just askin'. See ya! JES

"D.C.'s Puny Peak Enough to Pump Up 'Highpointers'
This is a wonderful article about the newly surveyed & marked highpoint of Washington D.C. This article has two photos and features the amazing efforts of Robert Hyman to finally survey the highest natural ground of Fort Reno and get a marker placed there (no small feat considering the numerous
official channels needed for approval!). Formerly, the highpoint was accepted as the berm around the reservoir at Fort Reno, but this was man-made build-up.
Big article in today's Tempo section, written by Patrick Reardon who's covered highpointing in past pieces. He provides up to date information, covers FAQs, and mentions the recent demise of member James Nasti.
Wonderful color article in the Fall 2008 issue of Geico Direct. This issue has four different covers and two slightly different articles. Thank you Donna Ikenberry for creating this.
Pages 1 & 3 mention highpointing, and Pages 9-12 contain the articles.
Versions A & B highlight WA, NY, NM, NC
Versions C & D highlight TX, CO, NM, NC

Major article of Montana Mountain Goat, Mario Locatelli, with color photos!
[note: All highpointing articles are maintained in the HP Club archives (in albums) which can be made available for review when you visit Golden, CO, or if I bring them to the conventions. Please mail us articles you see - - hard copies - - for the archives. I can print web articles, but they often omit photos, etc. Thanks!]
Here's an email from Cara McDonough, senior writer for http://findingDulcinea.com and a new member of the Highpointers Club, that I wanted to pass on to y'all.
It's great when a Member promotes the Club, it's members and it's mission. It's extra special when the Member is new and is seriously infected with the "Highpointing Bug."
Imagine all the lists they'll be piling up to do along the way? Can't you feel the excitement!!!

"I wanted to write and let you know that I just wrote a feature about highpointing for the Web site http://findingDulcinea.com. We aim to bring the best of the Internet to our readers through analytical news stories, Web guides on tons of different subjects, features and more.
My husband has just recently gotten into highpointing - I got our family a membership to the Highpointers Club this Christmas! - so I wanted to write something on it for our site. Of course I included a link to your group. It was so much fun to work on.
Please feel free to pass it on or post it anywhere - we're a somewhat new site and are looking to draw more readers.
Thanks for doing such a great job with the club, too. My husband is the real enthusiast, but it's such a great activity that we're all having fun with it. I loved meeting Doreen in Delaware! We have an eight-month-old daughter who has been to a couple highpoints, too. We will have to send a picture for the next newsletter.
