Wrote a short piece about my 800x, which the Tuna tamed into fun shooter. It's a Brazilian model with an attractive walnut stock. He put a Tarantula in and carefully honed, fitted and lubed it into a fun unit. Even with the trigger at around 7lbs, it's a gas. The cocking cycle is short. The piston comes down hard enough (even with a heavy pellet)to sound like a .22 short. I've got plenty of other tuned springers in the closet, but something keeps me interested in this one. The stock ergonomics are fantastic.

yep - that's why i stuck with my 1000X, even after i discovered how beastly the trigger is. mine's turkish, with a fantastic stock! for the money ($95 when i bot it) you just don't find that anwhere else and i didn't want to give up on it. i've been hoping to find info -- lots of info -- on how these have been best and most successfully "tamed." It's been slow coming, but so far i've found:
1. hone trigger (article here)
2. replace trigger spring with weaker one (need more info on spring to use)
3. put JM Tar on the mainspring (excellent suggestion)
4. replace mainspring with tarantula spring (but now we're talking money?)
this air rifle is also an EXCELLENT and inexpensive training option for coping with recoil..excepting the trigger of course. Master this, and your .22 LR, mags and even some larger rifles will be NO problem at all!

The Tuna commented that the 800x has a "parachute" type seal--he didn't readily find an existing seal that would fit. I've read in the yellow forums that Daisy doesn't either, but sells a generic blank that can be sized to fit (I assume this is the case with the whole line, 600-1000). A better seal would be the ticket for mine. Maybe if we get enough folks enthused, we'll turn up some better parts to do justice to these cult classic shooters!

Daisy wasn't any help in getting a piston seal.........they gave me the phone number of someone out in Arizona who, as it ended up, only sold parts to old Winchester centerfire/rimfire guns. The 800x and 1000x both use the same piston seal - the difference is in the length of the chamber (based on the two guns I've rebuilt). I just broke down my 1000x this past weekend and installed a Maccari aftermarket seal (use the larger of his two seals, and grind it to fit......http://www.airguns.citymax.com/page/page/251327.htm), along with cleaning/polishing the piston and chamber, and welding the piston head in place to bypass the cheap crimp job. The 1000x does have a good size spring in it - a good aftermarket spring (based on coil size and length) would be Maccari's Firewire spring, although it would need a slight bit of shimming. Believe it or not, I also installed a Maccari "monolith" spring (after much piston honing) in an 800x.....the spring is designed for the Beeman Kodiak gun, and it's massive! Took two people to cock the gun, but then welded a three foot pipe over the barrel - looks like a wicked shot gun. Every pellet, from a Beeman gold hollowpoint (7+ grain) to a Beeman Silver arrow (11.5 grain) shoots within 30 fps of eachother......all at 850+ FPS. Everyone should consider breaking their 800/1000x guns down, and at a minimum, lubing them with a high-quality moly grease (in the chamber) and either spring tar or synthetic grease (such as Amsoil) on the spring......the Turkish factory seems to like skimping on the lube, which dramatically effected my 1000x after 1500 shots (point of impact suddenly dropped 1.5 inches one day). After the rebuild, anything under 8.0 grains breaks the sound barrier, and I shoot RWS Supermag's at 900+ FPS (last 20 shots were in the exact same hole, from a benchrest, at 37 feet). They're great guns, but they need a little aftermarket work....and simply dripping RWS piston lube into the chamber every 500 shots doesn't count! Also, if anyone knows of a good aftermarket breech seal, please let me know......I'm due for one, and the thought of spinning it out of neoprene myself doesn't sound all that exciting! :)
