I have spent hours finding any thing I can get my hands on about this rifle. I am a Winchester fan as it is and consider myself a hobbiest gunsmith. The last air rifle I owned a a Crossman CO2 gimmick when I was a kid. The local Sherrif here says that I can not shoot .22 rifles at rabbits and squirrels in my yard and to a point I have to agree with him. So that leaves a High Powered pellet rifle. My debate has been costs mostly. For another 50 bucks one could by another .22. I need something that will tip over a 5 pound jack rabbit out to about 50 yards and do it all day long. Will the Winchester 1000 do this?
Thanks

read through the comments linked on the site--should help.
first thing to remember though--this is not something made by winchester. they simply licensed their brand name to a line of low end airguns made in turkey (or brazil) for Daisy... If you are collecting all things Winchester however, go for it! if you are looking for a lot of power in a springer, for not a lot of money, go for it. if you are looking for an easy, fun, all around plinker, well.. there are lots of choices out there.

I have read, and reread everything here. I am confused about the Brazilian or the Turkish one being the best version and why. I have looked all over town and found a few Gamos and RWS's but no Winchester Daisy. So Ill have to mail order it. This concerns be due to the fact that I dont know what one Im getting till I get it.
BTW, Great spot on the net. Very informative topics on these rifles.

From what I can see from the pictures of the trigger mech.,the Turkish model has an improved version. It's still not great, but it only takes about 8-9 lbs pressure as opposed to the Brazil model needing 10-14 lbs.
The gun is also marketed under the Daisy brand,it's a model 1000s.
I got my Daisy at Walmart with a 3-9 scope for 95.00.
I don't think you can beat that price anywhere!
I did the trigger job and smoothed out the spring ends and the top hat to keep the spring from grabbing.I put moly on the spring ends and Maccari heavy tar on the outside of the spring. It now shoots great,no twang, just a nice solid "thunk".

Good to know. Thank you very much. Our local hardware store got a 1000X in and I drooled all over it. It was a Turkish version. He wanted 129 bucks for it. Told him that was high for the XS that included a scope. Having looked at the pictures of both models, I think Im going to look for a Brazilian model. Thanks to all!

$129 does sound higher than you should pay. but my guess is that the turkish is what you drooled over because it's the turkish walnut stock! my first 1000X i returned to daisy because pull was over 14 lbs. the replacement they sent me (and is the one in the trigger mod pictures on this site) was still over 11 lbs. i hate that kind of trigger pull. but it can be improved. next time i take it apart, i'll put some JM heavy tar on the spring, too.
Ricson, what did you do to "smooth" the hat?

I took the hat and chucked it in a 1/2 in drill, then spun it and (carefully)held 400 grit sandpaper in to it.I smoothed the top, sides and the inner part that contacts the spring.Don't go to far,or it will fit to loose.
Then I put a 600 stone in the drill and smoothed out the ends of the spring (Where the factory cuts the spring wire).I also polished the washers that fit on the spring guide at the bottom of the spring. Then lube all the areas that the spring end touches with moly, also lube the top of the top hat.My thaughts were that the spring end was digging in to the tophat and washers and it was preventing it from rotating smoothly when it fires. The tophat and washers both had marks in them where the spring had dug in.
I hope this helps.

It's well worth the money. I paid $119.00 for the Brazil model. Also, I see alot of talk concerning problems with a tight trigger. I have gotton so use to mine that it is no problem at all. The only thing I see wrong with it, is it's made from plastic instead of metal. Still a good buy.
