Today I went over to Pro Bass Shop to check out the differences between the wood stocked 1000s vs. the fiberglass stocked ones. One wood stocked one I picked up looked to be a nice piece of walnut, but the thing that stood out was the difference in the open sights. The wood stocked one had a traditional open rear sight and a covered post up front, while the fiberglas stocked ones had the "tru-glow" rear and front sights. Antoher thing was that neither of the two wood stocked models had holes in the trigger guard for adjusting the tension screws for the trigger. The fiberglas models did. Do the wood stocked Winchester 1000s have a fixed trigger that isn't adjustable? I don't know how old those particular models were, but I'm wondering if the newer wood stocked ones have adjustable triggers? From all I'm reading, the triggers certainly need adjustment. I'm sort of a traditionalist and a wood stocked gun appeals to me more than a fiberglass one does. Thanks, Harlee

Apparently there's a lot of mix and match with these rifles

I've got 3 model 800x rifles w/ wood stocks. One came with the non-adjustable trigger and non hi-vis sights. The other two had trigger guards with holes. However, the screw in the trigger is too short to adjust anything, so you need to use longer screws.

You seem to be satisfied with the Winchester brand since you own 3 of them. I went over to Walmart today and asked about the Daisy 1000, and I was told they sell very few of them. The clerk told me if I bought one and didn't like it, simply return it. I asked the clerk to place a special order for the Crosman Quest in .177 w/scope for $94.00, and she said she would try and for me to check back on Monday. If that doesn't go through then I may invest in the Daisy 1000 w/scope for $99.00. Is it true they have a 40+ lb. cocking lever? I believe that's more than my Beeman C-1 in .22. With the short bbl, it's a bear, as is my B-21. Would you recommend one style of the Winchester over the other? Thanks, Harlee

The wood one is a brazilan model without an adjustable trigger, Ugh! Very hard to pull. The Black stock is the Turkish model and has an adjustible trigger, much nicer of a rifle and you can tune the trigger a bit.
Saw them at a meijers store the other day. Also they had a win. 800x which also had a new style stock and an adjustible trigger.
