Has anyone tried these pellets?  I was looking at them, and what they advertise sounds good; increased velocity, and increased penetration...

But then looking at their site, I noticed that the pellets weigh only 5.1 gr., and that got me a bit worried (seems like the increase velocity is due more to the lighter weight than the ballistic alloy to me).  Plus, I am not sure these pellets would not suffer from over penetration.  But I have not tried them yet....

If anyone has any feedback on these, please let me know.

Felipe

By the way, the web site for these new pellets is:

http://www.gamo-airguns.com/raptor.html

In their new products catalog, these pellets are also featured.  You can see it at:

You can also see a short video of these pellets at:

I tried them in my winchester 1000xs and the sound like a 22LR when the fire. They hit pretty hard and retain alot of their weight upon impact.

One thing to keep in mind...

is that light weight pellets can cause premature wear and component failure in magnum springers. It often causes piston slam which sends a shock through the mainspring and guide. Since our guide is plastic, I would expect it to break rather easily under these conditions. Keep in mind that Gamo rifles use metal guides and lots of "play" between the spring and guide.

I wouldn't touch those raptors with a ten-foot pole. 5.1gr is just too light, I prefer to feed my hatsan with 10+ gr pellets, they hit harder than 7-8 gr pellets past 40 yards. So using raptors is not even a question for me.

I think I'll stick to the good ol' lead pellets!

These pellets seem just too light.  When I was reading about them, I was getting really excited because of all the benefits.  But then I read the weight, and it just ruined the pellets for me.  I dont think I even want to try them on my Gamo (by the way, my Gamo has a custom made Delrin guide, so it should be as hard as metal, but it is actually plastic).  Everything I have read says that magum air rifles should not shoot pellets weighting less than 7 grains, and these are just WAAAAAAAYYY below that...  Plus, in all my research, lighter pellets do have higher muzzle velocities, but energy falls much faster than heavier pellets as distance increase, so even though they show higher energy at the muzzle, the actually reach the target with less energy (and energy, and not velocity, is what kills the prey!!!).

Also, the fact that they are made from a harder alloy is good when hitting the target, but I dont know how good that is for skirt expansion...  In short, these pellets just bring out too many IF's so I think I'll just let others experiment, and I will stick to what I know works!

By the way, to the anonymous poster, one possible reason why they may sound like a .22LR is because what you are hearing is the piston slaming into the receiver at a much faster speed than what is normal, so carefull!

Thanks for everyone's opinion!
