I've had several Daisy 1000S and XS rifles pass through my hands lately and now have a 1000SB sitting here just aching for a review.

General observations:
Based on an initial inspection on might say that the 1000SB is identical to the 1000X and they would be right. The receiver, barrel, trigger group, and the rest remain unchanged in this newer version. It has the same recoil, same stiff trigger, and the same hollow plastic stock. The only external difference that I could find was the improved scope that is packaged with the gun.

Chrony results:
Right out of the box I fired 5 shots over the chrony expecting the gun to shoot supersonic and diesel badly, boy was I suprised. All 5 shots tripped the chrony at 850fps. which is down 50+fps from the last stock 1000S I had. I suspected this has more to do with a lack of lubrication than any changes in internals.

Tear-down:
Tear-down is the same on this rifle as it is for any 1000S or XS. Removed the stock, trigger group, spring guide, mainspring, tophat, barrel, and piston. As I suspected, all internals were dry with a few lucky parts getting a thin coat of oil. As expected, nothing internally has been changed from the 1000S.

The scope:
With the 1000S you get the Powerline 3-9x32 scope with no paralax adjustment. Not a bad little scope and it seems to withstand the recoil of this gun well enough but nothing to write home about. The 1000SB however, comes with a 4x32 scope with adjustable paralax. Gain one adjustment and lose another. The mounts are a vast improvement over those of the Powerline and require the use of the included allan wrench for removal.

Conclusion:
With a price premium of $30.00-$40.00 over the 1000S, I expected a bit more out of the 1000SB to be honest. Perhaps if the scope was fully adjustable I might have felt otherwise but this is not the case.

Russ, Thanks for your review of the 1000SB.

I really wish someone at Daisy was reading this web site (forum) to make the
needed corrections in the 1000 series to make it a really good air rifle for
the money (ie. trigger tune, stock fill, and good lube tune).

It doesn't seem like it would take very much.

I agree with you on the cost of the 1000SB. The 1000S at walmart is
only $99.00 and the 1000SB is $148.00 at academy. I don't think the
scope, in this case, is really worth the extra money. My thoughts are,
buy the 1000S at walmart, use the 3-9 on something else and buy a Leapers
scope to put on the 1000S. The cost comes out about the same; and you have
a better scope and rifle combo.

It is frustrating...

since it is a very capable airgun. The recoil never really bothered me but the trigger and cheap stock are terrible. As far as scopes are concerned, I've been using a Barska 3-12x40 mil-dot on mine with great results. Of all the guns I've got, it is my go-to gun when there is a critter around. It simply does the job every time.

One alternative is a tuned 1000S which can be purchased for the same amount as the 1000SB and has a better trigger and smoother action. It just seems that the 1000SB offers no improvement for the $$$.

Glad the review was useful.
