Greetings all; I am new to the forum and I found you after looking around the 'net for a place where I could find advice on my 1000X.

I have a new scope on order for the rifle and unfortunately a kind of troubling development has occurred recently with the gun. Every so often, when I return the barrel to firing position after cocking the weapon the rifle fires immediately without my finger being anywhere near the trigger.

Anyone know what is going on? I like the rifle and it has been trouble-free but I hate to put the new A/O scope on it if it is on its way out.

Thanks in advance for any good advice anyone has.

Wes, if it's a new rifle that you bought recently, I'd seriously consider returning it. As you probably already know, the gun is unreliable to shoot safely, so make sure not to try to load or shoot it until the issue is resolved (I had to say that since shooting safety is a pet peeve of mine). Assuming you haven't done any trigger work on it, it sounds like there's a manufacturer's defect in the trigger/sear or the sear/piston mating surfaces, or possibly a return spring or missing pin in the trigger group. The retailer where you bought it, especially if you got it at a WalMart, should take it back and replace it with a new one (if they do, make sure they understand NOT to put the defective rifle back on the shelf for sale to somebody else).

If it was an older or used rifle, your only recourse may be to either attempt to correct the trigger problem yourself or have a competent airgun mechanic look at it and fix it. Hopefully Russ will comment on this, since he's a lot more experienced with these airguns than I. He's posted a great disassembly guide and trigger guide on his website that will help you, should you decide to try fixing it yourself.

Hope it works out for you.

Bryan

GOOD ADVICE, THANKS...

Just as an FYI and a thank you....

It came from Sports Authority on sale for $75 in August of 2005. It hits hard and was a devastating squirrel's bain for the first few months I owned it. Unfortunately, I ruined a pretty decent rifle scope that I put on it thinking that since it WAS a rifle scope it would have no problem with recoil. WRONG. Oh well, live and learn and oftimes the best experience is that which you have to pay for....

My first question would be...

Did you make any adjustments to the trigger?
The adjusting screw in the factory set-up limits sear engagement which can cause mis-fires. If this screw has been turned in then I would back it out.

I do agree that if it hasn't been touched and is fairly new, try to return it. If not, a little work should be able to restore it to safe operation. If you decide to open it up yourself, download the trigger guide I made first so you know what to expect.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

TRIGGER HAS DEGRADED SOMEWHAT....

Russ I have not adjusted the trigger but I have noticed that over the 2.5 years I have had the rifle it has degraded somewhat from where it was when new.

What I mean by that is that it seems to have developed a need for more trigger pressure and consequently the "sweet spot" of discharge has been reduced.

Can you post a link to where the diagram is; from this post and another one on the board it seems that this [a minor adjustment] might solve the problem.

Thanks

Wes, here's the link to Russ's website with some great practical info for the Daisy/Winchester 1000 (also if you're into Chinese-made B-3's):

http://webpages.charter.net/guru1/documents/index.html

The Daisy trigger and tune guides are .zip files that you can download and unzip to get to the relevant info.

and tear it down for inspection. I wouldn't try any adjustments until you've had the chance to examine the internals and verify that everything is sound. Drop me a line if there is anything I can help with.

Misfires

Wes,
If you got it a Walmart, be sure to tell them it is not a firearm but an air gun. They didn't want to take my faulty 1000 back and pointed to their sign saying "No exchanges on firearms".

If it's an older gun, Daisy will repair it for you for mimimal charges. They don't like the liability of misfiring guns out in the land. Just call them and tell what's wrong.

A friend of mine lubed and deburred mine and it shoots, cocks, and sounds so much better.

call it a BB gun since most are familiar with that term. Airgun and pellet gun are less familiar terms and seem to carry the same stigma as firearms sometimes.

I have returned airguns at Wal Mart as well and agree with Charlie 100%. It can be a battle trying to clarify that it isn't a firearm (firearms are not returnable) but stick to your guns (pun not intended).

Take care.

CALL IT A "BB GUN" - HA HA!

Makes sense; I call it using the KISS technique. [if you know anyone in sales they will tell you what that means if you don't already know]

I generally try to avoid shopping at Wally World although I have the utmost respect for their vaunted return policies. Get the old flick DEMOLITION MAN and you will catch my drift about why I avoid making that huge retail beast even huger!

Thanks both for that good advice about the "firearms" policy.

Wes,
immediately call Daisy. I own the 1000s and called them to ask if they would "tune" the trigger for me.
They then offered to replace the entire trigger group since the one that came in mine had a 12.5lb trigger pull!!!(I told them that it was not like that anymore, I just wanted a tune up).The replacement trigger will be at 3Lbs.
the rep(anthony S) then told me that mine was one of the last to have the dreadful trigger and that he would replace it for me free of charge!!!!!!!!!!
Ups just picked it up today(I've had mine for 3 years)
I also got him to replace the synthetic stock(cracked beacause I had to keep tightening the screw-recoil).I STILL cannot believe it!!!!

You have a MAJOR safety issue!!!! Call daisy immediately and have this fixed!!!they will, almost surely, take care of this for you. They took care of me without me even having to ask for anything!

I'm a different Wes then the one that originally began this post, of course..

I have a Daisy 1000s coming to me in the mail tomorrow. The one I bought is from www.sportsmansguide.com and is advertised as remanufactured. I hope mine comes with a 3 lb trigger because I haven't been looking forward to modding it.

I've been burned by the sportsmans guide before and advise caution when dealing with them.
They like to "bait and switch" on customers, or advertize one thing with a photo, but when you receive the item, it is completely different.
Beware
