Nothing happens afterwards because the movie didn't continue. If the movie continued he could have stayed in the future until he died in the future, stayed until he died in the present, or just stayed until he was removed. In fact, ANYTHING could have happened seeing as this was a movie about a man going into the future through dreams. The man could have returned to the future as freakin' Godzilla. Screw you peoples hypothetical bullshit about a movie that was far from realistic in the first place. Good movie, though.
