Heres Harry not so long ago-maybe his rock knowledge-may give some clues as to his influences? (as seen in Leftist Trainspotters yahoo groups)

"Don't know about 'obscure groups' but Everything But The Girl were both
members of the Young Communist League (CPGB original 7" version) and Robert
Wyatt ( of Shipbuilding fame) was a member of the CPGB until the Euros took
a firm grip and I am told his old pal Elvis Costello was also close to the
YCL if not a card-carrying member.

Scritti Politti lead singer Green was also YCL and ahem, rock 'n' roll
revivalist Shakin' Stevens was a CPGB-YCL member, although it is still not
clear if his Top Ten chart hit "You drive me crazy" was an attack on the
revisionist leadership of the party or not.

The Scottish folk singer Dick Gaughan was a member of the CPB, he might have
joined the Communist Party of Scotland in recent years, I'm not sure, but he
remains a communist and Scottish patriot.

The popular British comedian/actor Alexis Sayle was a member of the Maoist
CPB-ML, I think his parents were both ex-CP members, and he has drawn on
this rich heritage for some of his comedy acts.

AS you would expect the British trots have had a far weaker impact on
popular culture.

The dreadful 'soul-skin' band the Redskins were members of the SWP, and a
certain internet activist James Tait remains (treacherously) a big fan of
their ultra-leftist stomping.

No doubt some of the Brit-trots on this list will flesh out their miserly
contribution to rock history.......
