Response to Simon Evans off to pastures new, again |
|
Yes Todor, he was less than coy about his former communist past and he seems to have forgotten his connection with Straight Left altogether. He certainly had plenty to say about it when he was running the old "formers" site.
His vendetta against the Weedy Wanker was also matched by a futile campaign in 2001 to get the Democratic Left or whatever it was called then to return the assets of the old CPGB to the CPB -- a campaign also promoted by Nick Cohen, when he too posed as a left wing columnist. Cohen also publicly endorsed the drive to oust Rosser and Hicks during the Morning Star fracas in one of his columns (in Tribune I think). As far as I know Cohen was never a member of the CPGB but he clearly had some connection with Straight Left and like "Harry" he became an open reactionary, pro-war Blairite when Iraq was invaded.
It's a pity no one has taken up Burgess' appeal for more information about Simon Evans' student days. But it's never too late!
