on the comments page of his boring HP blog...but still no mention of Straight Left. I wonder why?
"It is indeed utterly irrelevant to the debate but just for the record:
1. I have never kept my previous membership of the Communist Party of Great Britain a secret - there are many posts in the archive of this site where I discuss that past. For the record - I joined in 1988 (aged 18) and within two years the party was dead. Draw your own conclusions
2. After that little excursion I rejoined the Labour Party in 1991 and I have been a Labour supporter ever since. I had joined Labour in 1986.
3. The ‘Harry Steele’ thing on UK Left Network was a wind-up. Anyone who read the site at the time knew that I was just winding up Trots. Anyone who takes anything written on that forum by ‘Harry Steele’ seriously is either ignorant or mischevious. Likewise the blog ‘Sectarian Worker’ was largely an excericse in winding up the SWP. It was only when I started Harry’s Place that I began to actually put some honest political opinions on the web.
4. Having said that - around 2001 I would still have probably held a softish line on Castro given that I retained some sort of attachment to the general lefty view on Cuba as being ‘progressive’. I was in no-way a communist then but I wasn’t yet an anti-communist.
Hope that clears things up."
