If the two journalists were held by the south Koreans instead of the DPRK they would have faced a long prison sentence or even the death penality! I remember in 1989 the young student leader Rim Su Yong being arrested by the Roh Tae Roo Regime and being given an extremely heavy sentence by a court in Seoul for the crime of attending the World Youth Festival in Pyongyang. It was only massive international pressure which made her relase possible a few years later. South Korea has some of the most despotic legistion in the world with the infamous "national security law" being a prime example.Under this law for instance everybody on this forum would have been arrested (apart from Mr.Janos ha ha!!)and be given long jail terms. The Security Planning Agency of south Korea monitors and controls all the political sentiments and actions of the popultion. In 1971 the Opposition candidate Kim Dae Jung (who became SK president in 1998) was kidnapped by the SPA while touring Japan and jailed by the Pak Chung Hee regime. Recently the regime of neo-conservative Li Myung Bak set fire to a block of flats in downtown Seoul with all inhabitants still inside so as to make way for a luxury housing development for the super rich. The Seoul regime has been notorious in using sexual violence aganist its female political prisoners, with least 250,000 vicitms of this torture method each year. The G.I occupation force in south Korea commits outrages aganist the south Korean populace on almost daily basis. So it the DPRK which upholds and promotes human rights the most in the world and it is south Korea, the UK, Iseral and other captailist regimes which surpresses basic human rights and dignity!!! | |
