Thank you Frank Owen for your favourable comments about the ex GDR.
We had a strong GB GDR Friendship Society in Manchester which had within its ranks many CPGB, Labour Party and trade union members.
Our branch in Manchester was twinned with Karl Marx Stadt (after the counter revolution by the West in 1989, it was renamed Chemnitz).
Manchester City Council, through leading Councillors such as Bill Risby, had good links with the GDR; our Council held several GDR exhibitions at the Town Hall.
