Yet another look inside of another golden oldy. L to R, Top to bottom:
1) a couple of the tools I made up to make the job easier - the "T" handle valve nut wrench, and the slide hammer to remove the valve body.
2) a bird's eye view of the valve body retaining nut arrangement, showing the strange pattern that the wrench must accomodate.
3) as the nut comes out of the gun on the end of the wrench.
4) the slide hammer is then threaded onto the snout of the valve body, and given a couple raps, and out it comes. Using the slide hammer breaks the lead sealing ring freely away from the outer wall, allowing for it to be reused. Often, these rings have to be dug out with a pick, rendering them un-useable.
5) the poppet seal and the valve seal are hardened and compressed, and have to be dug out of their seats. The valve stem is threaded into the brass seat, so it can be removed to make cleaning the seat out easier. New seals are fashioned from butrate rubber, 70 durometer, 0.095" thick.
6) the parts laid out pretty much how they are arranged in the gun.
7) the complete gun - good as new.
