Response to This brute was commissioned by the British War Department .....
I had one of the postwar ones-it fitted in the 2 inch gun on a Valentine tank.I also had a complete target outfit. It laid out over quarter a football field. The gun sat at the apex of a triangle of wires pegged to the ground. Rubber targets(tanks, trucks and 'shapes') were mounted on a moving wire which formed the base of the triangle,so the targets crossed in front of the muzzle of the .177 trainer. The whole outfit came in a marked army metal case and all items were marked"packed in 1952".Sadly I left this lot in our garage in Te Awamutu-when we moved to Auckland. I bought this surplus equipment for $70

Response to Gun laying trainer
To further this discussion, Trev sends these Rubber Targets used with the trainer. Recognize the tank on the left, not sure what the T shape represents. Thanks Trev. Dave
Looks like the T in a starlight scope
