Something!! He is so unique. But , yeah, I could see that! He is sch a trip. I've love him since I was 16.
Wow, that is such a grea idea, what are you, a genius or somethin'? Yes, I think so!!!! It's perfect. So do you know who was cast?
Kathy
Honest to God, I had no idea that people where thinking about hiring him for the role! I was reading Harry Potter 5, again....and I saw a show that David Bowie was on while I was reading and I thought...WOW he would really be the perfect Lord Voldamort! I could not resist posting a message! Oh, and the best thing of all...he can hang out with his buddy, Mr. Oldman! And he is British so basically he is a sure thing! lucy
Do you guys have any other Lord Voldamort ideas???
Hey, Giso!
That is great news! I remember the weird look my Mom gave me when I asked her for a DB album on my 16 th B-day! I got it though! Here's a sign of the times, a couple of months ago my 17 year old asked me what an album was!!!!! I said " It's like a cd, only bigger"!!!!Talk about feeling OLD!!!!!
What record company is that with? What is the name of the song and do you have the lyrics? I heard someone say that Gary sounds alot like DB when he sings. Is that true?
Hey, sad update on Stephanie Purvis, on closer examination, it appears that it may have spread to her lymph nodes and she may yet need further treatment. We are waiting to hear.
This was the final kick in the teeth for me this week, as a 16 yr old cousin died, my brother Gary had a heart attack, and i just found this out today about Steph. So, once again, I am asking for your prayers and positive thoughts for this sweet uber Gary fan.
Shame on those fakers who claimed to be from Gary's camp and did not come through for her. I feel sorry for you when your karma catches up with you. What ever on Earth could posses you to hurt such a kind loving person? You are sick and should seek immeadiate mental help.
Now I can really understand why Doug is so protective of Gary, cause there are alot of posers and fakes and flakes.
Thank you to all the kind and genuine people who have sent heartfelt good feeling s and prayers out for her!
You posted information about Stephanie Purvis a few months ago. At that time, you requested a photo but did not post contact information. I requested that information from you. At that time, you sent me an email stating that her husband was leery of sharing information with virtual strangers and absolutely must have my identity revealed in order to do so. At no point in time have I ever identified myself as being anything other than "dramasylum" which is a copyrighted legal identity. A few days later you returned to state that their phone number could be discovered and perhaps I could phone her husband and request the contact data from him. I found it too invasive and completely outre to phone a husband to essentially claim that I am sorry his wife has had to have secondary genitalia removed, but would she like a photo of a man she finds attractive to help ease her pain and suffering. It was abosultely without a doubt the inappropriate action to take.
The woman herself has never posted here. You requested this mailing out of kindness and concern for her. To attack someone for not responding the way you - not necessarily Stephanie - wanted to and then to cast aspersions upon them is reproachable.
And perhaps if Stephanie wanted her medical history posted online, she would have done so herself.
Strange, I dont remember mentioning your name! Your inexplicable discomfort led me to give up asking you fairly soon. I do not see how you asking her husband for their mailing address ( which I did not ask for to help her preserve her privacy)to help her aquire one of her hearts desires is reproachable. I thought it more appropriate for Gary's camp to deal directly with Scott, since it seemed to be taking an extraordinarily long time for it all to come together, partially my fault, since I am not on line everyday, I'm sure.
Nice vocabulary,by the way, but you do tend to come across fairly cold. Is that what you intend?
Why are you so afraid to let anyone know who you are if it is you legal business identity? An anonymous business name? Riiight! Now you are asking me to believe the unbelievable.
By the way, Stephanie has posted info on her condition on the internet, so there goes that selfrighteous indignation right down the old plumbing!
What I really dont understand is, if you really wanted to do something for her, why didn't you just do it?
Clearly,we do not understand each others mindsets, nor do we need to. What matters is that it means alot to
Steph. Dont punish her for my mistakes or assume she would consider it an invasion for someone in Gary's camp to help her have something that she would cherish.
You can absolutely trust Scott and Steph. Neither Scott nor She will ever divulge your identity if you ask them not to. That is one of the reasons she is so well loved, her integrity, goodness and honesty.
Honestly, you've resisted from the start. Why say anything if you did not truely want to do something?
Here's what happened:
There was someone else who conviced me that he was legitimate and HE did not follow through. You basically said you didnt want to be bothered, since you were convinced for whatever reason it was intrusive. So I stopped asking. This other person, acted as though he were following through and did not!!!!!If it makes you feel any better, basically breaking my heart for her.
Unless you are the same person,( which unfortuantely sounds fairly likely, because of your attitude and language usage), you have no reason to assume I meant you.
If I am wrong, I appologize. I sincerely HOPE I'm wrong. I pray I'm wrong. I dont like being toyed with when I'm trying to do something good.
But we are no closer to the goal. Getting Steph something she can cherish. Sans the negative drama please! Pardon the pun! God, drama is for books, movies and plays, not my life. I was hoping this would go off a little easier and leave everyone feeling happy and joyful. Welcome to the real world, Kathy. I dont want to be cynical, I dont believe in it.
All it requires on your part is one phone call to Scott for the address and aquiring the photo/note from Gary and mailing it off. Is that too much to ask? She does in fact face more chemo at the very least, perhaps more surgery and radiation as well down the road.
For Gods sake, please, help her out if you can. Not for me, for her. What else can anyone say?
You can hate me all ya like, I am an annoying person quite often ,to be sure, but she is as good as I am annoying and she adores Gary, and it would, as you say ease her suffering. Your choice.
If you are determined to do good, Just DO It! I will thank you, as will all of her other on line Gary friends (and there are MANY) with all of our hearts, whether WE know who you are or not.
Stephanies friend,
Kathy
1) I have NEVER admitted to being anything or anyone other than Dramasylum, and I have never posted here or responded to you via any other contact than dramasylum@yahoo.com (in other words, for the millionth time, I have not claimed to be from Gary's camp, Gary himself, Doug, or a bunny rabbit from Japan). I have never communicated with you as a man from Gary's camp or someone claiming to be that.
2) Stephanie Purvis never posted any information here, medical or otherwise. If all anyone wanted was a photo, a mailing address would be necessary. Identification would not.
...Dramasylum is very probably a legal business identity, because it's a name I've seen on several theatre programs as playwright. I also remember something about a BAFTA award in the recent past. And there are quite a few rumours swirling about Gary Oldman's involvement in a business venture with Dramasylum, who may have some sort of connection with Sean Penn.
I don't know who is to blame but I will say that there is a huge wall around Gary, and sometimes I wonder if that wall is blocking his view from time to time among other concerns......
I appreciate that he is a very shy person and that someone at his level of success is inundated, and needs some wall of protection however lest we forget the fans are the main reason for that success........
however, to take another example, if Kathy had been trying to reach say Alan Rickman, for such a simple request, from various stories I have heard from fans on the kinds of things he has done for fans, it would be a different story, I believe I did read that Mr. Rickman in fact gave theatre tickets to a sick fan and may have even paid for her stay in New York and met with the fan after the performance....perhaps because Mr. Rickman has a smaller wall around him or none at all? now no one is suggesting that even Mr. Rickman can or would make a habit of that level of generosity but I don't think Kathy was asking for much on behalf of her friend...
or maybe Gary does do a number of charitable type things we never hear about - he was voted Autographer of the Year a few years back, [given many celebrities will not even take that time ever] and even when it was apparent his autograph was being forged by some people out there who were trying to make money off it.......the last major encounter of Gary with fans, I can recall, we reported on it at OML, as you recall a number of fans shared the experience with us and they noted that Gary's manager was trying to whisk him away after his speech but Gary insisted on staying talking to fans and posing for photos etc for quite some time......
but then I think of another incident - when the OML was being run by Kay McAfee, I noted in the archives that Informed Source had written in asking all the fans to write letters because Gary was getting a raw deal from the producers of Air Force One, which also sounded eeriely familar to the Contender situation a few years ago but I digress......apparently many subscribers took the time to write in and were awaiting some acknowledgement from Gary, which was promised by Informed Source as I recall until several months later it appeared such acknowledgement was not forthcoming, Informed Source explaining that Gary is very shy and doesn't feel worthy of all this adulation etc.....too shy to write a one sentence or two in appreciation? I have my own theories on the matter, but again I digress.......
You are right about Rickman. It took a co-worker several months after writing to him, but she finally got a nice reply and a personalized autographed photo.
I recall reading in an interview of Mr. Rickman, now it was a few years back and things could have changed, but I recall, because I found it refreshing, that Mr. Rickman says he tries to open and read most of his fan mail and respond to it, ie. he doesn't have a staff to look after these things as many celebrities do...which might explain why it took some time.....I can't keep up with my own mail these days and it is mostly junk and bills, no fan mail for moi, LOL
The letter was typed up by a staff member, but the letter and photo was signed by him. She was so happy to get a reply of any kind from him. She was hesitant to send it at first, but I pushed her, saying "what have you got to lose?" Now she is glad she did. Rickman is OK, not my type. I will stick with my Immortal Beloved.
I've had mixed success with getting autographs, photos, etc., from celebrities or authors in the past. And there's been more than one occasion when I questioned the authenticity of the item -- especially when there were so many different versions of putatively genuine signatures out there. However, with regard to what I've read here, it appears there's been at least one incident where someone made a request without including contact information. How many other requests have been made in the same way, resulting in disappointment?
I stopped collecting years ago. Unless I have the chance to meet and talk to the person about their work, what's the point of pen on paper? I'd rather watch the movie or read the book. And given the security problems many of these people have (two stories in today's news about celebrity stalkers -- shudder), I can't blame them for refusing to read what is essentially unsolicited mail, regardless of how well-intentioned it is. They can't tell that from looking at the envelope.
I don't quite understand the phenomenon of collecting autographs of celebrities, I can understand it more if it is on a photo and especially if you were able to give the photo to said celebrity or in the front of a book as at a book signing, but at the appropriate times, for example, Mr. Rickman would always sign autographs after his theatre show on Broadway or book signing or some convention or a premiere or some event where the celebrity is attending to promote some project or another.......I certainly do not understand hounding celebrities trying to live their off screen and interrupting their meals etc for an autograph...
I guess some people need an autograph to prove they meet so and so, personally if people don't believe you it is their problem, LOL, of course I have never seen my favourite celebrity up close and personal, the Toronto Film Festival being my only hope and I didn't think Gary was coming for NBM which he did and not only that I hear he was great at the after movie Q & A period that the directors of most films usually do......
then he was supposed to come for the Contender and I had my schedule all set this time and then there was the brouhaha and he didn't end up coming, boo hoo.......
now I did collect some autographs as a kid when I was a big NHL fan, LOL, I had all these Buffalo Sabre autographs but I had to earn them - a radio station had Ask the Sabres on every morning and you had to submit a good question for a certain hockey player and then you would get their autograph if your question got used, so my bigger thing was the fact that my questions got picked several times, LOL, but you know, who knows what happened to those autographs, the one was almost totally faded out last time I saw them about a decade or so ago, LOL......and I taped all the answers, wonder what happened to those cassettes LOL...
