| I have decided to make a movie and Gary Oldman will be played by some actor I have yet to produce in reality.
It is the story of how I came to be a neighbor. What got me there. What kept me there. And what I did after he and I both moved away.
It's wonderful to know that I will be able to say and do what I have wanted to...it will be a character named Gary Oldman in the film. Boy, will THIS be fun!
The purpose is to raise awareness with Gary's intuitive side of business, that I am, in fact, a brilliant female filmmaker. Though using his name may create some sort of copyright problem, I am sure an agreement can be made. Such as, Cary Goldman, or Barry Goldman..whatever. A cut of the percentages? Contractual agrrements are necessary.
I can't wait to give him a haircut!
I can't wait to push him into a pool of white chocolate pudding!
I can't wait to fly with him!
It's gonna be a fun life after all!
Why don't we have, as just a suggestion, a sort of "Coming Out Oldman" all over the place? Our, as fans, art about gary, paintings of gary, which I personally have not achieved, and whatever...poetry, plays, etc.
Let's have FUN...inspired by Mr. Oldman. |

Eva, you're a filmmaker? Have you done anything we might know (or can search out)? |
| Eva (no login) 68.117.206.58 | Need more info | July 27 2004, 3:09 PM |
Yes. I am a filmmaker. There is a film I participated in as an actress/DP waaaaaay back when I first went to hollywood. A french B-Team was in the area, staying with neighbors, and I shall have to find the website. It's a University of Paris doc. on Hollywood life and fashion. We even went to search for Johnny Rotten in Santa Monica.
:)
Other films, nothing in the mainstream, I am sorry. I am an underground filmmaker, lo and behold. |

Good grief, don't APOLOGISE for not being in the mainstream!! Who wants to be out there in the middle of the river getting their trousers soggy anyway? Good luck for the future. |

I love grapefruit. With raw sugar or cane sugar. Crenshaw melons...oh, yes, fruit is the best! Raw, fresh, and juicy. I can describe my self this way, as well. I'd prefer to be a strawberry, actually.
I love the underground. It's cool. Haha |

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I've never had it put to me quite like this. Soggy trousers!? :) |

Sorry, "pants" not trousers. I'm shouting over the Atlantic here!
As far as I can make out, anyway, the mainstream is no place to be if you have the least interest in controlling your own art. There are generally a few lucky people whose work is in vogue at any given moment who are given the freedom to create as they wish to, and everybody else - whether they're beginners or hacks or established, respected directors... (I can feel a rant coming on....I will refrain from boring everybody, myself included!) |

As I studied a Cassavetes film yesterday (edge of the city) I decided, "Hey! I haven't done neearly as much research as I would like...I will make more time to swim in my craft...with others"...so I went to the local theatre and was given the last part available...I won't say what I'll be doing...I just hope I make it to the dress rehearsal tonight...I'm mighty tired..up all night talking to an old aquaintance who is making "Piglettes".
The play, however, is titled, Take It Easy, and is a 1940s war effort....it sounds more like the war today...war is timeless.
As far as being underground, these Parisian kids I mentioned working with (canalweb) dubbed me, "The Queen of Underground", without my ever saying a word about much.
So be it.
Going to the UK soon...northern territory...much cleaner and safer than HERE.
Hope all is well with all of you, and our favourite freak.

Yeah, I'm learning screenwriting, it's fun , but Cinti, Oh is like, Dead for filmmaking. Guess I'll have to start with my two computer animated stories. Make a short for each and shop them around for financing.
Paris and London are great backdrops for films,c'est magnific!
Eva, you sound like a lot of fun. I'm mostly into hybrid Scifi/romance/action genres. Besides the Gman, what types of films do you like to make?
I' sorry, but I want my films to be seen and understood by as many people as poss, or really, what the point? Each has a heart and soul, apart from their commercial viability. If I can entertain people, and touch them, make a difference as well as a profit, I think it's all good!
Damn skippy!
Call me an oldfashioned filmmaker entrepreneur, there's nothing wrong with
educating peoples heads , touching their hearts, kicking them in the guts ( and possibly in the ass)and making a whopping blockbuster at the same time.
Dont be embarrassed to make a profit, no matter how pure the motive, sooner or later, we all have to sell ourselves for somethin. I intend to get maximum bang for my bucks! The more $ you make, the more peole you can reach with the message.
My message is simple: Love is the answer. See, I really am oldfashioned! Downright Zen, actually.
Good luck on that film, if ya ever need a screenwriter willing to write for the credit for her resume, give me a ring!

Oh I agree totally with Kat - if you can make something worth making and get it out to a mass audience, then beautiful, that's the way it should be. But that's hard to do well, if at all, and there's nothing wrong in the meantime with puttering about in the background and having your work only seen by three people at a time, was my point (I think...what the hell was I talking about?)
And in my experience the underground, indie-type films are the most likely to be vulnerable to conceptual nonsense - the people who mash a lot of junk together and think they're making a statement. I have never known boredom like the boredom of pretentious filmmaking - try sitting still through nine minutes of a single close-up of a plughole emptying in 16mm. Whether that's better or worse than two hours of macho crap buildings blowing up I have no idea. |

I agree, Grape, that some filmmakers love to shoot just about anything and slap a label on it and call it "art". In my opinion, all is art, just some is more palatable than others.
Have a great Blue Moon Saturday!

There are a few places I am considering...nothing near London, really, somewhere far far away from the hustle and bustle...northern territory. |

Do you mean going towards Scotland? Its all so lovely except the industrial parts.
I love their regional dielects. Sometimes they can trick you! A guy came into my shop, and I couldve sworn he was from Scotland, but he was from right across the border. He was a handsome man too , woohoo! I live in a border state too, so my accent is more Southern than you would normally hear in a northern state. Half of Kentucky works in Ohio and vice versa, so our accents are all mixed up! People in Northern Kentucky are much nicer than People in Cincinnati, but thats because everyone here is always tense, due to living in a practical corporate facist dictatorship with the Gestapo for police. I may just move to NKY! Dont think I'm quite up for LA,NY or London,YET. I do want to keep my options open. Are there many jobs in the outlying regions of England? Besides filmmaking, what kind of work would you do? Or you may be independently wealthy, I am not! Yes, I'd love to see all of Britain. It seems like a great place to be from!
Well, good luck to all filmmakers, Goddess knows we need it!

Scotland, England, and France, as well. I am searching for a place that feels like home and I will make sure that it is with good air, water, schools, foods, and people. The weather I do not mind at all, growing up in the South of Lousiana, I have heard, is comparable to some in Europe.
To stick to the subject of the forum: I stiiiiil haven't seen the latest Harry Potter Film. And I'd love to see Tiptoes. | |
