Chéreau originally approached Gary Oldman for the role of Jay. Oldman turned the part down because of the sex scenes, but he introduced the director to potential locations in the Old Kent Road area of southeast London.
Gary remains a gentleman until the end !
I can understand perfectly that he refused the part for this fantastic film, but deep inside I regret in a way. I simply loved this movie and would have loved to see him play in it alongside the other superb actors.
How is that sex scene any different from the one in The Scarlet Letter? (I also haven't seen "Intimacy") Well anyways I respect his decision, a true gentleman.
Well the movie has close-up sex scenes. It is very well filmed and (godthanks) WITHOUT music. You can not, ever, compare it with the Scarlet letter. Regarding the 'gentleman', I was refering to the fact that he helped the director in SouthEastSightSeeing his eX-neighbourhood (so far says the article)
I recommend you this one, it's really good.
Yes, the sex in "Intimacy" was not simulated. Rather (as in the recent, controversial "Brown Bunny") the actors (Kerry Fox and Mark Rylance of all people) are actually having sex with each other on-screen.
There is no penetration, only Kerry performing (just a little bit) fellatio on Mark, but because of this fellatio you might think he is penetrating her too, but that is not true.
Sorry, I forgot to put my name on that post. I liked Clinton too and voted for him both times so it wasn't a criticism of him, but rather of the law itself.
I voted for him both times too! STILL dont care who he boffs...

as long as they are of age and it is consentual!
I'd rather see one real sex sceen than all that casual war, violence and cruelty.
Sex good.
Violence, war and cruelty bad.
Buffy fans will understand the reference!
Voted for Kerry against my will, but then the republican secretary of state futzed with the voter registration so badly, I'm sure along with his coconspiritors in other states they made yet another election moot.
But the Dems got what they deserved by laying down with the Reps to keep the third party candidates out,(most notably Ralph Nader).
What they did was essentially immoral and illegal, did he really think he could then trust the Reps not to screw him and his? What comes around goes around! Duh...and he calls Dubya stupid,Jesus!
Somethin is seriously reeking here in the good ole US of A!
Make Love not war!
Make democracy, not corporate facist theocratic dictatorships!
Your humble servant,
