I all,
My name is Dan, from exeter. I'm a ex-londoner who remembers the RMs very well.
I have recently left my life time hobby of railways and have found that i have a new likeing for route masters but i have no idea where to start. I have no other interests in other buses apart from RTs. I really want to get out to a ralley where there is going to be a few RMs together or find a RM running somewhere. I know of the 9h and 15h.
(I had no luck last time i was in london (febuary some time) as i waited just over an hour for a 15 on regent st and none turned up) so how often are they supposed to run.)
If anyone can help and tell me where will be the best places to go for 2008 and if there any RMs/RTs in Devon or the westcounty, that would be a great help.
Thanks

Dan

The RMs on the 15 only run between Tower Hill and Trafalgar Square (every 15 mins) so that's why you didn't see any in Regent Street.

I understand Western Greyhound are planning to operate one or more of their RMs on 14 June in the Newquay area in similar fashion to previous years.

Hi Dan

You should have a look at the EXCELLENT South Devon Railway website @ www.southdevonrailway.org/RouteMaster - and ask on this forum about anything else you want to know! You can also join the Routemaster Association - see www.routemaster.org

I've now seen the sdr site and hopefully the SDR rm will run this weekend at the transport gala.

The london route 9, does this run the full route and on what days?

Dan , sad to say the heritage route 9 is shadow of its former self running daily from 09.00 am >>> approx 19.30 pm rom Aldwych via Trafalgar Square >>> Royal Albert Hall , Kensington and terminates behind the hall in a nothing important back street .

Commonly you wil find only 4 RMs working with the fifth stood down as spare in the above street as I was once told by helpful crews ..

Hi Dan,

Gavin and I are currently in Devon at the SDR until next Monday. We were working on RM 1872 last Monday, Steam cleaning her underneath in readiness for the MOT which is due shortly. On Tuesday She worked the SDR Heritage Bus Service and today She was out working in the Bovey Tracey / Heathfield area. The next time She will be operating the Heritage Bus Service is during April 7th - 20th and then again for our Thomas Weekend (3rd-5th May) when She will be sharing the service with Bertie and Bulgy, RM 1872 is aptly name Cousin Bertrum from London for the three days.

If you come down to the SDR during the week ask for Gavin and John from the London Group. The RM does not live at Buckfastleigh It is stabled in a nice dry depot together with the Nostalgic Transport Heritage Fleet owned by Mr Ron Greet. We are very lucky to have the use of his maintainence facilities to look after our RM.

If you want to make contact either by coming to Buckfastleigh or by email we can then arrange to meet up and have a chat.

Regards,

Thought you were off sick as nothing from you for weeks - ho hum

Take your passport with you as there are now thousands of Poles between there & the Scillies and we don't want you to get confused when coming home ... apparently the Home office is thinking of setting up a passport control far west on the TAMAR Bridge with no turnaround facilites .... Little private joke between Mark & me .....

PS are you taking your Routemaster on holiday ?
