Hello,

When we put the key into start our bus, the alarm goes off for acouple of seconds but the two light that regularly by the starter key don't go on. The starter will not engage but when we jump start the engine it will run. The lights signaling that the brakes and transmission are charging do come on and then go off when the preasure comes up. It then will not shift into any gear, but when we shift at the handle the engine revs up.This unit has 7 or 8 relays in the panal. The wire terminal that goes to the transmission has 24 volts at the terminals, but when shifted into gear the voltage goes away. Any ideas. Russell

Russel ,

For us to try and help you we need to know what bus & engine combination you have ..

Iveco / Cummins ' C ' / Cummins Euro 2 & Allison gearbox / Scania .

Identifying this will get things going easier with ideas for you ...

Sounds like an ignition problem rather than a transmission problem. If you have to jump start the bus, ie, without going through the ignition/start switch, then the engine can run without electrics, as any diesel can, thus preventing the gear selection working. You do not say if your bus has the "security plug" starter system. For starters I would take the cover panels off the instrument panel up by your left ear, and check all the connections around the ignition/starter switch.
