I have seen courtesy of my good lady , who printed the info for me , that there are some ' COMMERCIAL Mirrors ' being sold on THAT site suitable for use on Routemasters .

The mirrors in question are 10 inch by 6 inch with flat glass , also 7 inch by 5 inch flat glass ........ ' buy it now ' £20 + p&p £5 ..... does not say if a pair or otherwise !!

ALL THESE MIRRORS whether flat or convex glass are available from good commercial vehicle parts suppliers at around £7 each , you can also buy packs of 5 replacement glasses for about the same price ..... These mirrors although never fitted to RMs as far as I know, were almost standard fitment on most lorries in the 60s and 70s. For anyone dissatisfied with the spafax variety, they offer an excellent alternative and a very good image of what is alongside. There are photos on the net of RM 1397 and RML 2750 with the larger plain glass version fitted. Although not aesthetically very pleasing, they do 'wot's writ on the tin' particularly well. I imagine they were never a bus fitment because the chances of surviving a trip through the bus wash were virtually nil.

The seller's name would appear to be similar to that of a respected purveyor of classic vehicle spares.

Thanks Roy , methinks you got it in one !! RM1397 mirrors do the job very well with less likelyhood of scratch being glass ++ the added bonus of glass being replaceable .

I bought the smaller version as its closer to the spafax and with packs of 5 replacement glasses PLUS 2 mrrors >> UNDER £20 bargain ..

Incidentally NEW SPAFAX mirrors as used on the RM Buses ++ £18 each as quoted by the supplier when I foned them ..
