As the last topic concerned a possible wiring hickup I thought you might enjoy this lot to play with ........ Its ALL the now NOT required 2Way Radio & Crystal Eyes screens wiring [ it has all been pulled out ] that is / has been hidden behind and between the inner roof panel and original aluminium roof dome , it would all have been extended from front dome back along inside the roof to the second bay roof panels when the Fibreshield domes were fitted at overhaul ........ question for you --- How does it all get from here down to the Drivers cab .......??

regardless of how it gets there, shocking to see unprotected sharp edges waiting to chafe the wiring and cause a major smoke leak.

The radio aerial wiring goes down the centre pillar, left along the upper edge of the destination box, down the inner front nearside 'tween decks panel into the canopy over the engine, through a hole drilled in the cab behind the two header panels, down the auxillary conduit at the rear of the drivers emergency window along a piece of square plastic conduit into the radio which sits against the engine/cab firewall behind the handbrake.

The 'Crystal Eyes' wiring on RM 928 went the whole length of the offside lighting panels on both decks and crossed to the nearside via the ceiling in the conductors locker, was clipped to the cable conduit which goes across the platform above the ceiling panel closest to the saloon entrance and into a specially installed shelf under the lovers seat which had an access door in the pulpit panel at about head height when reached from the fourth stair.

Thanks Chris for that explaination . Its safe then to say don't cut anything unless you're 100% certain it isn't being used having traced the ' redundant ' wires first ..

I almost forgot. The two thick orange wires which come out of the radio, up the auxillary conduit or, more often than not, are cable tied to the outside of it are the cables to the AVL locator fitted in the cantrail band above the nearside wing. These also go through a hole behind the two header panels and across the canopy over the engine. They are not required and can be removed.
